Maintaining The Shine Of Quartz Countertops

Are you dealing with an ugly stain on your quartz countertop that just won’t come off? Fear not, we’ve got you covered.

It is important to note that even though quartz is durable, it is an engineered stone that can be sensitive to sharp objects, heat, and stains. Read our previous blog post, Granite vs. Quartz, on how quartz is manufactured for more insight.

A kitchen is designed for cooking. You can’t always be on alert. We get it. Sooner or later, there will be an oopsie. Anything from discoloration caused by carrots or rutabagas to sharpie marks, mug imprints, or even rust from old utensils can leave an ugly stain behind.

So, how can you maintain your quartz countertop's beautiful shine? And how can you clean stubborn stains that soap and water can’t get out?

To prevent accidents from happening, always protect your quartz surface with a cutting board, coasters, or trivets. When washing vegetables, instead of placing them directly on your countertop, place them on a paper towel or better yet, in a bowl. This will protect your quartz from any discoloration from vegetables or fruit.

When an oopsie happens, and you’ve noticed this quickly enough, simply use your finger as an eraser to rub off the stain. If the stain won’t budge, use a bit of saliva. Unconventional as this may sound, surprisingly your built-in cleaner can work wonders. You can sanitize your countertop after.

With harsher stains like paint or even sharpie marks, use Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. This stuff really is magic! Never use bleach or acids, as this will damage the surface. Also, watch what type of sponge you use for cleaning to avoid scratching. Scotch-bright and steel wool are a no-go. If you’ve tried everything and the stain remains, seek professional advice.

To conclude, always wipe down your countertop with warm water and soap after every cooking session. Inspect and finish by drying your countertop with a towel to avoid any missed water drops.

And there you have it. A few quick and simple steps to keep your quartz countertop looking as stunning as on the day it was installed. Remember, a little care and attention go a long way. Don’t let a carrot stain or a paint mark ruin the centerpiece of your home.
